Mirror is one of the talented young fellas who are the results of what Wema Sepetu’s fame [and may be power] can do.He hails from Endless Fame, a multi-media company owned by the former Miss Tanzania who is now clouded up with her “boo” Diamond Platinumz in their second episode of Love.
Now talking about Kolokolo, a brand new song from Mirror, my first reaction when I heard it was “another Nigeria influenced song”. As I have mentioned above[and I don't want you to get me wrong] Mirror is talented and for all sakes, Kolokolo is one of those jams that will rock the streets this summer. And I don’t have anything against Nigeria artists.As a matter of fact I dance to almost anything Nigerian and this blog enjoys a very good working relationship with artists and their management companies from Lagos,Toronto,London,New York to LA. But hey,what does Kolokolo mean? Is it a Swahili word? Probably no.Is it Yoruba? Who knows…You know what I am talking about?
However, please permit me to say I think as someone who follows Tanzania music close,we need to skip a bit from the Nigerian influence that is currently clouding whatever rhythm and taste we have in the East Coast of Africa. It’s good to take few pieces but it seems like we are taking it to the whole new level. In my humble opinion, we won’t get too far. We have our lake, let’s swim and fish there.
