Selemani Msindi [Afande Sele]

Afande Sele “Mfalme wa Rhymes”

10 years ago[I thought it was more than 10 years], a rapper from a small town became “The King Of Rhymes“. His home town [Morogoro] celebrated with him-big time.He had conquered Goliath and he happened to be David. The balloons got air and streets got packed in his “homecoming party”. His name from then became Afande Sele “Mfalme wa Rhymes”.

His win, like anything else that is seriously contested wasn’t taken in a care free mode. Those who were backstage at Diamond Jubilee says, the arguments were not just among the fans in front of that tables made stage but above and beyond. He had emerged the winner while names such as Professor Jay(I think by then he was still Nigga Jay), Solo Thang etc etc. To him, Dar-es-salaam was like a foreign University and he was the aspiring foreign student. I remember he came on with his hit song Darubini. Professor Jay had Msinitenge Feat. Q-Chief. Was Darubini better than Msinitenge? Was Solo not a better writer than Selemani Msindi? We would never know…

All said and done, what Eric Shigongo(Global Publisherz) had created would never happen again. Because of some irregularities including how it ended, the artists who thought they had won, vowed never to participate again. For that reason the competition was never held again. People moved into other businesses. That makes Selemani Msindi [Afande Sele] the one and only King Of Rhymes todate. It was like a pen had ran out of ink.

Now if life is a TV channel, Afande Sele is currently on. He is celebrating his ten years reign with a song Miaka Kumi[Ten Years]. Another MC,Roma Mkatoliki has praised the chorus of this song as the best he has ever had.He shared his thoughts on Instagram. Here is Miaka Kumi
